Rangers land Dan Neil as Celtic and Hearts busy on transfer deadline day chase

Rangers have completed the free transfer signing of Sunderland midfielder Dan Neil, taking their summer business to five new arrivals with the transfer window still open, according to the Daily Record. The Ibrox club are continuing to reshape their squad under Derek McInnes and have been credited with further interest in Troyes defender Sankhoun Diawara and Partizan Belgrade midfielder Vanja Dragojevic as they look to add further reinforcements before deadline day.
The Daily Record reports that Rangers have also lodged a bid for Dragojevic, while there is growing noise around a potential departure for forward Youssef Chermiti. Lyon are said to be keen on the striker and could even attempt a double deal by pursuing Hearts forward Claudio Braga in the same swoop.
Celtic busy behind the scenes but fans await first-team arrival
Across the city, Celtic have been active in the background having appointed Hearts set-piece specialist Ross Grant to Martin O’Neill’s backroom staff. However, the Daily Record notes that supporters are still waiting for concrete movement on the playing side after a summer of speculation.
Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis has emerged as the latest name on Celtic’s radar, while Hertha Berlin goalkeeper Tjark Ernst remains a contender to replace the retired Kasper Schmeichel between the posts. The Record also revealed that Boca Juniors have knocked back another loan approach from Celtic for defender Marcelo Saracchi, and that a proposed move for Nobel Mendy to the east end of Glasgow will not be going ahead.
Hearts prospect set for Chelsea after beating off Barcelona
Hearts look set to lose highly rated youngster Alfie Osborne, with the Daily Record reporting that Chelsea have agreed to sign the Scotland under-19 international, seeing off interest from Barcelona among other top European clubs. Osborne is understood to have agreed a multi-year deal that will be formally completed in mid-July once he turns 18, despite Hearts’ efforts to keep hold of the defender.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Inverness have confirmed the signing of attacking midfielder Ryan Duncan on a two-year contract after his release from Aberdeen. Duncan spent last season on loan at Highland rivals Ross County and joins a Caledonian Stadium squad that already includes former Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie, while Inverness have also brought Alfie Bavidge back on loan from Pittodrie.
Dundee winger Luke Graham has officially completed a move to Stoke City, a transfer the Daily Record says it had reported on before it was confirmed. St Mirren, meanwhile, have handed free agent Stevie Mallan a possible route back to the club after taking him on their pre-season trip to Spain, though striker Mikael Mandron has decided to move on from the Buddies.
