Rashford: I won’t think about Man Utd future until after World Cup

Marcus Rashford insists he is not dwelling on his Manchester United future while England prepare for their World Cup last-16 showdown with Mexico. The 28-year-old made clear his priority is the Three Lions’ tournament, with his club situation to be dealt with once the dust settles.

Rashford spent part of last season on loan at Barcelona, where he impressed the Catalan club’s hierarchy. However, Barcelona ultimately chose not to trigger a £26 million option that would have made the switch permanent, leaving the forward’s long-term future unresolved.

United are prepared to listen to offers for their highest earner this summer but, as things stand, will not sanction another loan move back to Barcelona. Rashford’s contract at Old Trafford runs until 2028, giving the club leverage over any potential deal.

Rashford’s focus firmly on England

Speaking ahead of England’s crunch last-16 clash with Mexico in Mexico City, Rashford was adamant that questions over his club career would have to wait. “As a person, I live in the moment,” he said. “I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup. I wanted it done before, and if not, then I won’t deal with it until after, because I want to fully be present in this moment.”

The forward has become an important figure in Gareth Southgate’s successor’s squad as England chase a first World Cup triumph in 60 years. Rashford made clear he has no intention of letting off-field speculation distract him from the job at hand.

“At the same time we’re fighting for something. I don’t have energy to be putting into other things,” he added, underlining his determination to keep external noise at bay during the knockout stages.

What next for United’s forward line

Rashford’s situation is just one strand of a wider rebuild at Old Trafford, with United reportedly weighing up options across midfield and defence this summer after missing out on a top target. His future is expected to be a significant talking point once the World Cup concludes, with United’s stance on a permanent sale likely to hinge on interest from elsewhere rather than a repeat loan to Barcelona.

For now, though, Rashford’s attention remains on Mexico City, where England will hope to continue their progress towards a first World Cup final appearance since 1966.
