Spurs seal £185m Tonali and Fernandes deals as Man Utd, Liverpool weigh moves

Tottenham Hotspur have set the early pace of the summer transfer window, confirming a combined £185million outlay on Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes as Premier League rivals begin to stir into action. Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all working on deals of their own, according to the Mirror.
Spurs lead the way with midfield spree
Spurs have completed the £100million signing of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, bringing an end to speculation over the Italian midfielder’s future. The move forms part of a wider £185million spend that also brought in Mateus Fernandes, as Tottenham look to rebuild their engine room for the coming campaign.
Both Tonali and Fernandes had previously been linked with a move to Manchester United, but the Mirror reports that Spurs moved decisively to beat their rivals to the signings.
Manchester United shift focus to attack
Having missed out on their preferred midfield targets, Michael Carrick’s Manchester United appear to have turned their attention elsewhere. The club are reportedly weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, while a possible £35million deal for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr has also been touted.
United are said to be keen to remain financially responsible in the market despite their ambitions to strengthen further.
Arsenal circle Villa duo as Barcola race heats up
Arsenal are reportedly looking to capitalise on Aston Villa’s financial difficulties, with Morgan Rogers and Ezri Konsa both said to be on Mikel Arteta’s radar. Leandro Trossard, meanwhile, appears to be heading for the Emirates Stadium exit.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are also carrying out work on a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, viewed as an alternative to Rogers. Liverpool are also said to have shifted their focus away from Yan Diomande and towards the French forward, with Barcola continuing to be linked with an exit from the French champions.
Elsewhere in Paris, Footmercato journalist Santi Aouna has reported that PSG forward Ibrahim Mbaye wants to leave the club, with Aston Villa said to be “very interested” and Tottenham also credited with an interest.
Chelsea, Liverpool and Wilson deals take shape
Chelsea look set to lose winger Tyrique George, with his loan move to Everton on the verge of becoming permanent. Liverpool, meanwhile, have added to their squad for the future by signing Scotland Under-16s captain Dara Jikiemi from Celtic on a five-year deal, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
Former West Ham and Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is set to join Brentford on a free transfer, subject to a medical, after leaving the Hammers as a free agent. The 34-year-old would provide competition for Igor Thiago following the Brazilian’s strong campaign.
