Liam Sercombe returns to Weston-super-Mare on permanent deal

Veteran midfielder Liam Sercombe has completed a permanent return to Weston-super-Mare, penning a deal with the National League South club after leaving Forest Green Rovers at the end of his contract.

The 36-year-old spent a month on loan with the Seagulls last season, making six appearances during that spell. Following the expiry of his deal at Forest Green, he has now made the switch to Weston permanent.

Sercombe, who has previously turned out for Exeter City, Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham Town during a lengthy career, said the loan spell had convinced him that Weston-super-Mare was the right destination.

“From when I was on loan, it was always somewhere that I thought I would want to come to,” Sercombe said. “I just can’t wait to get going now.”

Experience for the Seagulls’ push

The signing adds significant experience to Weston-super-Mare’s midfield options as they prepare for another campaign in the National League South. Sercombe’s career has taken in spells across the EFL, giving him a wealth of know-how to draw on at this level of the non-league pyramid.

His departure from Forest Green Rovers closes a chapter that saw him contribute during a difficult period for the Gloucestershire club, who have endured a turbulent few years since dropping out of the Football League.

Weston-super-Mare will be hoping Sercombe’s arrival on a permanent basis, rather than the brief loan taste fans got last term, allows him to make a fuller impact across a full season.
