Everton agree £25m deal to sign Chelsea winger Tyrique George

Everton have agreed a deal worth up to £25 million, including add-ons, to sign Chelsea winger Tyrique George on a permanent basis. According to the BBC, the move is subject to personal terms and a medical before it can be finalised.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on Merseyside on loan, with an option to buy included in that arrangement set at £25 million. The BBC reports that the two clubs have since reworked the structure of the fee, with the upfront payment now reduced to £17 million and the remaining £8 million made up of add-ons linked to European qualification and appearances.

Chelsea have also inserted a 15 per cent sell-on clause into the agreement, the BBC understands, meaning they would benefit financially should Everton later sell George on for a profit.

Impressed Moyes despite limited game time

George made 11 appearances for Everton during his loan spell, starting just once, but did enough to convince manager David Moyes of his potential. The Scot described him as an “excellent boy with an excellent work-rate” at the end of the four-month loan, according to the BBC.

George came through Chelsea’s academy and is an England Under-21 international. He has been available for a permanent transfer for the past 12 months, with the BBC noting that he held talks with RB Leipzig last summer before a £22 million switch to Fulham collapsed on transfer deadline day in September 2025.

Everton’s summer business continues

Should the deal go through, George would become Everton’s second summer signing following the £16 million move, not including add-ons, for Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough. The Toffees have also converted German attacking midfielder Merlin Rohl’s loan from SC Freiburg into a permanent deal after a strong first campaign at Goodison Park.

Everton have meanwhile seen Idrissa Gana Gueye and Seamus Coleman leave the club after their contracts expired, as Moyes continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.
