Tamworth boss Peaks: Takeover ambition must be tempered with realism

Tamworth manager Andy Peaks has spoken of the whirlwind few days that followed the confirmation of a long-awaited takeover at the National League club, revealing he learned the news while still on holiday abroad.
The Non-League Football Paper reports that American investment firm Dawn Group International (DGI) has been confirmed as Tamworth’s new owners, bringing an end to a takeover saga that had rumbled on for some time at the Step 2 club.
Straight from sunbed to the touchline
Peaks, who has led Tamworth to back-to-back promotions, was in Turkey when the deal was made public and had to rush back to England to deal with the fallout. He told The NLP: “I got back from holiday at 2am Saturday morning, and then I had to be at the ground on Saturday afternoon.”
The double promotion-winning boss described the aftermath as chaotic, with paperwork and legal matters to sort through almost immediately upon his return. “We had to sort out paperwork and legal duties, stuff like that, and then I got inundated with hundreds of people texting me, so it’s been pretty manic since I got back,” he said.
New ownership, new expectations
The arrival of DGI represents a significant moment for Tamworth, a club that has enjoyed rapid rise through the non-league pyramid under Peaks’ stewardship. American investment in English non-league football has become increasingly common in recent years, with overseas groups drawn to the sport’s growth potential lower down the pyramid.
With new investors now in place, questions will inevitably turn to what ambitions the Lambs harbour beyond the National League. Peaks’ comments suggest the club is keen to balance genuine ambition with a healthy dose of realism as it enters this new chapter.
Tamworth’s rise has been one of non-league football’s notable stories of recent seasons, and the takeover by DGI is likely to bring fresh scrutiny of the club’s plans as it seeks to build on its recent momentum.
