Man Utd eye Summerville as top wing target while Rashford addresses future

Manchester United have identified West Ham United forward Crysencio Summerville as their leading target for the left flank this summer, according to Sky Sports, as Michael Carrick continues to reshape his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
Sky Sports reports that the 24-year-old Dutchman is United’s “number one target” on the wing, though several other Premier League clubs are also chasing his signature. Summerville, previously valued at around £50million, has held his interest piqued after West Ham’s relegation last season and a strong personal campaign that continued into the World Cup with the Netherlands.
According to the report, United have already held exploratory talks with West Ham over a possible deal, with greater clarity expected now that the Netherlands have exited the tournament following a penalty shootout defeat to Morocco in the round of 32. Summerville scored twice and set up two more goals in four appearances at the World Cup.
Carrick reshaping his midfield and attack
United’s business this window has already been busy, with Brazilian midfielder Ederson understood to have all but completed a move from Atalanta as the club look to replace the departed Casemiro. Further midfield reinforcements are expected, although United have missed out on some targets, including Mateus Fernandes, who opted to join a Premier League rival instead.
Carrick is keen to strengthen more than one area of his squad before the new campaign begins, with United’s wide options coming under particular scrutiny after last season saw Patrick Dorgu and Matheus Cunha regularly deployed as makeshift left wingers.
Rashford in no rush over his future
Marcus Rashford’s situation remains unresolved after Barcelona decided against triggering their £26million option to sign the England international permanently following his loan spell at the Camp Nou. Reports suggest Rashford is set to return to United for pre-season training once the World Cup concludes.
Speaking about his future, Rashford made clear he had no intention of making a decision during the tournament. “I was very clear with everyone involved before the World Cup, I wanted it (a move) done before,” he said. “If it’s not, I wanted it to wait until after. I want to be fully present in the moment. We’re fighting for something special.”
Rashford was named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup after a productive season at Barcelona, where he scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists. His comments suggest any resolution over his long-term future at Old Trafford will now wait until after the tournament has finished.
