Aberdeen set for double exit as Milanovic, Jensen near moves away from Pittodrie

Aberdeen are braced for a double departure in the coming days, with manager Stephen Robinson expecting both Nicolas Milanovic and Alexander Jensen to complete moves away from Pittodrie within 48 hours.

Record Sport had already revealed that Milanovic was attracting interest from his former club Western Sydney Wanderers, while Swedish outfit Elfsborg were said to be in talks over Jensen. Both clubs are now working to finalise six-figure deals for the out-of-favour Dons pair.

Speaking to the Press and Journal, Robinson confirmed that Milanovic’s exit is close. “It’s looking likely that Milo will leave in the next 24 hours,” he said. “I’ve been honest with a lot of players and I think that’s the best policy. I believe it hasn’t quite worked for Nicolas so far at Aberdeen.”

The Irishman added that Jensen is also expected to depart shortly after. “I’m expecting Alex to leave in the next 24 to 48 hours,” he said.

Two very different Pittodrie stories

Jensen, a Scottish Cup winner during his time at Aberdeen, is set to head back to Sweden, the country where he made his name with Brommapojkarna before moving to Scotland. His return represents something of a homecoming after a spell that included silverware but ultimately fell short of a regular starting berth.

Milanovic’s Aberdeen career has followed a different trajectory. He joined from Western Sydney Wanderers last summer having been named the A-League’s top young player, but he has struggled to reproduce that form north of the border. He was part of Aberdeen’s recent training camp in Holland, unlike Jensen, who did not travel with the squad.

Robinson’s rebuild continues

The impending exits form part of a wider reshaping of the Aberdeen squad under Robinson, who has been candid with players not deemed part of his plans going forward. With both deals expected to be wrapped up imminently, attention at Pittodrie is likely to turn quickly to how the funds raised, and the freed-up wage budget, might be reinvested before the transfer window closes.
