Germany’s 2026 World Cup home kit leaks with 1990 retro design

Germany’s home kit for next summer’s World Cup has reportedly leaked online, with the design paying homage to the shirt worn when West Germany were crowned world champions in 1990.

Images shared by Footy Headlines and picked up by 90min show adidas returning to a retro template for the tournament in North America, closely echoing the beloved strip from Italia ’90.

A nod to 1990 glory

The leaked shirt is predominantly white, in keeping with tradition, and features black adidas shoulder stripes alongside red-and-black trim on the cuffs.

The most eye-catching element is a flag-inspired motif across the chest, with black, red and yellow stripes sweeping diagonally from each shoulder to meet in the middle and form a striking V-shaped diamond pattern.

It is an unmistakable throwback to the shirt West Germany wore on their way to lifting the World Cup in 1990, which carried a similar diagonal design, though the stripes on that jersey sat off-centre rather than meeting symmetrically.

Four stars for four titles

According to the leaked images, the kit also features four stars above the DFB crest, each printed with one of the years Germany have won the World Cup: 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014.

The look is completed with black shorts and white socks, sticking closely to the classic template Germany have favoured for decades.

90min reports that the design is expected to prove popular with supporters, many of whom regard the 1990 shirt as one of the finest in football history.

Hoping to repeat history

Germany will be aiming to add a fifth World Cup star to their collection when the tournament kicks off in North America next summer, with the retro design likely to fuel hopes that Die Mannschaft can channel the spirit of that 1990 triumph.

Neither adidas nor the German football federation have officially confirmed the kit, and further details are expected closer to the tournament.
