Man Utd dismiss fears £39m Ederson deal is in danger of collapsing

Manchester United have moved to quash speculation that their £39million deal for Ederson is at risk of collapsing, insisting the Brazilian midfielder will now undergo a full medical before the transfer from Atalanta is completed.
Rumours the move could fall through began circulating on Sunday night, but club sources have told the Daily Mail the reports are wide of the mark. United maintain that the structure of the deal and Ederson’s personal terms have long been settled, with the plan always having been to finalise matters in July.
The transfer was delayed after Ederson received a late call-up to Brazil’s World Cup squad, following an injury to Roma defender Wesley. That meant the finer details had to be put on hold while he joined up with Carlo Ancelotti’s squad in the United States.
Medical to follow World Cup exit
Ederson, who turns 27 on Tuesday, is understood to have already had an initial medical check carried out. United now intend to put him through a full, comprehensive medical examination now that Brazil’s involvement in the World Cup has come to an end.
Ancelotti’s side were knocked out at the last-16 stage on Sunday night, beaten 2-1 by Norway, with Erling Haaland scoring twice to send the five-time world champions home early.
United reached an agreement with Atalanta at the start of June to sign Ederson for £35million, with a further £3.8million in add-ons potentially making the deal worth £39million in total.
Frustrating summer in the midfield market
While the Ederson deal appears back on track, United’s broader efforts to strengthen their midfield have proved frustrating in recent weeks. The club had hoped to add up to two more players in that area of the pitch but missed out on Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City, and Mateus Fernandes, who instead moved to Tottenham Hotspur.
United’s search took another turn on Sunday when it emerged that Andrey Santos, Ederson’s Brazilian compatriot at Chelsea, is now under consideration as a potential target, according to the Daily Mail.
