Altrincham land Barnet title winner Owen Evans in goalkeeper coup

Altrincham have strengthened between the sticks by signing Welsh goalkeeper Owen Evans from Barnet, a player who helped the Bees win promotion to the EFL last season.
The 29-year-old was part of Barnet’s title-winning National League campaign in 2025, which secured the club’s return to the Football League, and he now moves to the National League to join Neil Gibson’s Robins.
Alongside Evans, Altrincham have also added experience up front by bringing in former Macclesfield striker Kristian Dennis, 36, following his release from Tranmere Rovers. The veteran forward is well known to non-league followers from his lengthy career in and around the EFL and National League.
Familiar faces return to Moss Lane
Gibson has also moved to secure the futures of two players who impressed on loan at the club last term. Midfielder Jack Hinchy, who made seven appearances while on loan from Notts County, has returned to Altrincham on a fresh deal.
Fellow midfielder Liam Humbles, 22, has also joined permanently after spending last season on loan at Altrincham from Rochdale. Both players are expected to provide continuity for the Robins as they prepare for the new campaign.
The wave of incomings comes as goalkeeper Ethan Ross has departed Moss Lane at the end of his contract, opening the door for Evans to step straight into the number one shirt.
Building for the new campaign
Evans’s arrival represents a notable coup for Altrincham given his pedigree at the top end of the National League, having been a key figure in Barnet’s promotion push. His experience of winning promotion should prove valuable to a Robins side looking to push for honours of their own.
Dennis, meanwhile, brings a wealth of goalscoring know-how from a career that has taken in spells at Macclesfield and Tranmere Rovers among others, and he will be expected to add firepower to Gibson’s forward line.
With pre-season now underway across the National League, Altrincham’s business so far suggests Gibson is keen to blend fresh signings with players who already know the club, as the Robins look to build momentum ahead of the new season.
