Marcus Rashford has publicly thanked Jamie Carragher after the former Liverpool defender shut down an attempt by Gary Neville to discuss the forward’s future during a recording of The Overlap podcast.

In a clip circulated ahead of the episode’s release, Neville can be heard trying to steer the conversation towards Rashford, only for Carragher to cut him off. “Marcus Rashford, what do we think? When Neville pressed on, noting that Rashford “has come back to United”, Carragher was unmoved, insisting: “So what? Oh my God. He’s just a good player for Man United!”

Rashford responded on social media, writing: “Thanks, Jamie. It would be great to be able to get my head down and play football without my name being mentioned every day.”
