Musiala says he has ‘easily treatable’ condition after second collapse in four days

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he is being treated for a neurological condition causing “absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days. Musiala appeared dazed and had to be helped off the pitch by medical staff and teammates, who gathered around him as he received treatment. The incident came just days after he suffered a similar collapse during Bayern’s 3-1 friendly victory over RB Leipzig in Munich on Saturday.

Posting on Instagram after the Heidenheim match, Musiala sought to reassure supporters about his condition. “I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction,” he wrote. “These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance – but for me, they’re currently just part of my everyday life.”

He added: “I’m receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

Bayern confirm they were aware of situation

Speaking after Tuesday’s win, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the club had already been monitoring the issue before Musiala addressed it publicly. “We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” Eberl said. “Jamal will speak out. He’s in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower.”

Musiala’s health scare comes at a sensitive time for a player who missed the first six months of last season after breaking his ankle at the 2025 Club World Cup. He fought his way back into contention in the second half of the campaign and went on to start three of Germany’s four matches at the 2026 World Cup.

The Bayern academy graduate, who came through England’s youth ranks before switching allegiance to Germany, has long been considered one of European football’s brightest talents. His back-to-back collapses will inevitably raise questions over his workload as pre-season friendlies continue ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign, with Harry Kane’s side also managing the England striker’s own contract discussions at the same time.
