Rangers chase World Cup star Ferguson as Celtic push through Duran transfer

Rangers have made an enquiry for Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson as Derek McInnes looks to reunite with the World Cup star, while Celtic are close to completing a move for Colombian forward Camilo Duran, according to the Daily Record.
The two Glasgow giants remain at the centre of a hectic Scottish transfer window, with both clubs working on multiple fronts as they reshape their squads following the January business.
Rangers eye Ferguson reunion with McInnes
The Daily Record reports that Rangers have enquired about signing Ferguson, the midfielder McInnes previously worked with and developed at Aberdeen before his move to Italy in 2024. Bologna value their captain in eight figures, and Roma and Atalanta are also said to hold strong interest in the 26-year-old.
Whether Rangers can finance a deal remains uncertain. The report suggests any move for Ferguson could hinge on the club recouping funds from potential departures, with Nico Raskin – still away with Belgium at the World Cup – having been linked with Hull, Atalanta and Real Betis.
Adding a further layer of intrigue, the Daily Record understands Bologna have long-standing interest in Rangers midfielder Connor Barron, having tried to sign him back in 2024 before he instead joined Ibrox. The Italian side approached Rangers again last season only to be turned down by the club’s former sporting director, and Barron remains on their list.
Elsewhere in Govan, Rangers had a £3.8 million bid rejected last week for Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic but are continuing to pursue the midfielder. Defender Sankhoun Diawara has also been linked with a move to Ibrox as McInnes looks to freshen up his options, while Youssef Chermiti has reportedly emerged as a target for Ligue 1 club Lyon and Emmanuel Fernandez is also attracting interest as part of a squad overhaul.
Celtic close in on Duran as Oxlade-Chamberlain stays
Across the city, Celtic look set to add Duran from Azerbaijani side Qarabag, with the striker reportedly undergoing a medical ahead of the move. The Parkhead club have also tied down Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on a fresh one-year deal.
Celtic have also been linked with a move for free agent forward Tobias Lauritsen, while pundit Scott McDonald has urged the club to move for Motherwell’s World Cup performer Elijah Just. Boca Juniors are said to have rejected another loan approach for Marcelo Saracchi, and Hearts set-piece coach Ross Grant is joining Brendan Rodgers’ backroom staff at Celtic Park.
Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen also busy
Hibernian have completed the signing of midfielder Azeem Abdulai, while Hearts remain active in the market as their rebuild continues under the guidance of the club’s football operations staff.
At Pittodrie, Aberdeen’s summer of activity shows little sign of slowing, though Nicolas Milanovic and Alexander Jensen both appear to be heading for the exit as McInnes trims his squad ahead of a potentially busy second half of the window.
