Akinfenwa becomes shareholder as FC Farsley plot ambitious rise from Step 7

Adebayo Akinfenwa has taken on a fresh role in the game he served for more than two decades, becoming a shareholder at newly formed Step 7 side FC Farsley. According to The Non-League Football Paper, the 44-year-old former Wycombe Wanderers and AFC Wimbledon forward has linked up with long-time friends David and Katie Stockdale to help drive the club’s development.
FC Farsley were established following the demise of Farsley Celtic and will play their debut campaign in the Yorkshire Amateur Football League Supreme Division. The move reunites Akinfenwa with David Stockdale, his former Wycombe teammate, who now serves as both manager and director of football at the West Yorkshire outfit.
Katie Stockdale, David’s wife, holds the position of chair at the club, which has taken on the nickname the Throstle Nest. Akinfenwa’s arrival as a shareholder is intended to help raise the profile of a club built with community and long-term ambition at its heart.
A recognisable name in the non-league game
Across a professional career spanning more than 20 years, Akinfenwa made over 700 senior appearances and became one of English football’s most recognisable and respected personalities, known widely by his nickname “The Beast”. Beyond the pitch, he has built a successful business portfolio and become a well-regarded voice in the sport, using his profile to support communities and highlight opportunities within football.
The Non-League Football Paper reports that his experience and values are seen as closely aligned with FC Farsley’s aim of creating a sustainable, ambitious and community-focused club as it begins life in the pyramid.
Speaking about the move, Akinfenwa said: “When David and Katie told me about their plans for FC Farsley, it was impossible not to get excited. I’ve known them both for many years, and I know the passion, honesty and hard work they put into everything they do.”
He added: “This isn’t just about football – it’s about building a club that genuinely serves its community and creates opportunities for people. Becoming a shareholder was an easy decision because I believe in the people leading the club and the vision they’ve created. I’m looking forward to helping wherever I can, meeting the supporters and being part of what I believe is going to be a really exciting future for FC Farsley.”
Stockdale welcomes former teammate’s backing
Manager David Stockdale, who shared dressing rooms with Akinfenwa during their playing days, said he was delighted to have his old friend on board. “I’ve known Adebayo for a long time, and we shared some fantastic years together in professional football,” Stockdale said. “I know exactly what he brings.”
FC Farsley now begin preparations for their first season in the Yorkshire Amateur Football League Supreme Division, with Akinfenwa’s involvement expected to help attract further attention to the club’s early steps in senior football.
